MANILA, Philippines — Ayala-led ACEN Corp. is supplying renewable power to The Saint Francis Shangri-La Place, a residential tower in Ortigas that is owned by the Kuok Group’s Shang Properties Inc.
ACEN, through retail electricity supply arm ACEN RES, will boost the tower’s sustainability push by transitioning its common area to 100-percent clean power.
The supply will come from ACEN’s portfolio of solar, wind and geothermal power plants across the country.
“ACEN RES is dedicated to empowering organizations to make the switch to renewable energy to help them achieve their business and sustainability aspirations,” ACEN vice president for legal John Henry Liquete said.
The Saint Francis Shangri-La Place’s shift to clean energy, Liquete said, also sets an example for other businesses in contributing to the country’s energy transition goals.
With the move, ACEN said the tower is expected to displace around 2,200 tons of carbon footprint annually, equivalent to emissions generated by a gasoline-powered car traveling about 8.8 million kilometers.
This was made possible through the green energy option program, a government initiative that allows electricity end-users to choose renewable power sources via their preferred energy supplier.
Last month, foam and mattress maker Uratex tapped ACEN RES to energize its facilities in Metro Manila –Magallanes, Shaw Boulevard and Marcos Highway – and Isabela.
“We see immense potential to create synergies across our diverse businesses, including banking, communications, green mobility and land development,” ACEN managing director and COO for Philippine operations Miguel de Jesus has said.
“By working together, we can unlock new avenues for innovation and sustainable growth,” he added.
As the listed energy platform of the Ayala Group, ACEN has a global generation portfolio of about seven gigawatts spanning operational, under-construction and committed projects.
Through its robust domestic and international project pipeline, the company aims to scale up its attributable renewables capacity to 20 GW.
